36 x 31” acrylics, $995 "Long Cove, Mason OH" Like many Cincinnatians, I enjoy Homearama every June! This portrait of a house in Long Cove is one of my larger paintings at 36 x 31.” Grounding the canvas in pastel pink was inspired by the techniques used to print greeting cards. The Mason Pulse Journal featured a photo of this work in progress in Aug 2006. Homearama was at Long Cove in Mason again this summer. Building a new house, or purchasing a new home, is often a reason for commissioning a portrait.

I remained intrigued by this house from the time it was in “Tyvek” until I toured it during the show. Homes are as expressive for the people who build them as they are for the people who buy them. So I suspect it is just as difficult for builders and other craftspeople to part with the work they have created as it sometimes is for me to sell one of my paintings.

16 x 20" oils over acrylics on canvas $500 I usually begin a home portrait by taking dozens of photographs and doing at least three different drawings of the house. Winter is often the best time to take these pictures, without foliage and vegetation to block the views. Once we’ve chosen the preferred composition, I may do several different color sketches before beginning to paint. Typically, I’ll email images of my progress on a portrait while I’m in the process of creating it.

12 x 9” watercolor $300 I’m grateful for this good customer, who has commissioned me to paint home portraits for three of his brothers and one for his sister, all as Christmas gifts. Do you remember the thrill of purchasing your very first home? This portrait captures those feeling for this “first-time homeowner!”

Limited edition prints 9 x 12" to 18 x 24" $75 to $125 each Favorite golf holes are another subject people often commission me to paint as gifts to commemorate special occasions. So when I had the opportunity to paint freshART in Devou Park on Saturday September 13, I remembered this view of Carew Tower, Paul Brown Stadium and the city skyline - one of my own favorite golf holes! This acrylic painting was purchased at auction that night to benefit the Behringer-Crawford Museum in Covington, KY.

Her husband had planned a special surprise for her milestone birthday … flying her college roommates down to Fort Lauderdale for the weekend. But Hurricane Wilma was headed right for them and her Midwestern friends were scared. After arriving in Florida, they kept asking if they could help put up the hurricane shutters or stock up on provisions but the couple just laughed and said they’d been through many storms in the last 25 years. Two days later, the homeowners were eating their words, as there was no food in the grocery stores, no water for showers, and heavy damage to the house and property. (no more fountain!)

20 x 16” oils over acrylics $500 It's the house in the neighborhood they envisioned living in from the time they first married. Big enough to entertain the many friends they've made through the years they’ve lived in Cincinnati, it also accommodates the whole family for visits and holidays -- grandparents, children, grandchildren, in-laws, aunts, uncles, cousins and dogs.

Every window they look out of could also be a painting. How good to know such dreams really can come true!
