Home What's New?    Paintings    Christmas Gifts    More Paintings    Not Houses

24 x 18” acrylics     $500

Here's an example of a finished painting on stretched canvas, unframed. Because we wanted to feature the owner’s beautiful garden and landscaping, I painted a more “summery” scene than many of the photos I took in February for this home portrait. I can photograph your home myself, work from photos you supply, or paint on site (depending on the weather).

Taking digital photographs is part of my job and I try to provide homeowners with a variety from which to choose. It can be interesting to view a home from many different angles. Changing a scene from winter to summer, moving trees, putting shrubbery in (or taking it out) are all possibilities.

Adding a porch swing, tomato plants, an American flag and a garden in bloom all resulted from conversations I had with a recent customer about her childhood home, which today looks different than she remembers it.

Here's a painting I did while preparing a recently delivered home portrait. This house is currently for sale in the neighborhood where the Wyoming Art Show is held every May – delightful and inspiring. Look for me there in the spring of 2009.

They weren't kids just starting out. She had already had the wedding of her dreams long ago, along with all the requisite presents. Their wedding guests enjoyed the ambience of this Lebanon, Ohio B&B, where both the ceremony and the reception were held. This painting was done to remind the bride and groom of that memorable day: happy anniversary Sept 10!

Although this dwelling was “wide,” I decided to make the painting more narrow to have a vertical orientation. No longer a Bed & Breakfast, it is now a private residence.

Lebanon, Ohio is a favorite place of mine. In fact, its annual Christmas Parade on the first Saturday each December is the subject of the largest painting I’ve ever attempted at 6 x 5 ft. See it in progress at my studio on Final Fridays at the Pendleton

People who relocate frequently — professional athletes, retailers, and executives — love portraits of some of the homes they’ve lived in, for the happy memories. But others they would just as soon forget.

20 x 16" oil over acrylics      $450

As a result of Hurricane Wilma, more than 30 orange trees disappeared from this couple’s orchard the day after I took this photo. But there’s still a grapefruit tree in their Ft. Lauderdale front yard that yields a delicious breakfast!

Unfortunately, the screened in porch on the left side of the house was a casualty of the storm and had to be rebuilt after this portrait was painted.

Being in the restaurant business, this couple expected to move frequently. But the reality of relocating so often has taken its toll as their children have attended 4 different elementary schools - from Dayton to Columbus to Baltimore to Charlotte.

I still have this in my studio: one of my first home portraits, painted in plein air when I was ten years old. The town where I was born and raised — Findlay, Ohio — is filled with homes that have been cherished for over 100 years. So it’s not surprising that these houses captured my fancy early on as a favorite subject matter.

Do your children show artistic promise or like to paint? I’m grateful that my parents allowed me to take art lessons with adults beginning at a very early age and put me through college to get my degree in Fine Arts. But until just a few years ago, this was the last painting I’d done, at age 17, because I was afraid I’d be “starving in an attic.”

Today, it feels so good to be doing what I believe I was meant to do and living the life of the artist I have always been. Thank you for your interest, encouragement and support; I truly appreciate it!
